Today’s intention is:

To start small.

Don’t climb the mountain. Just buy some boots.

Do it for your Self

My friend, Mik, runs a marketing agency close by in Costa Mesa. He was an early guest on the Student of Intention podcast and one of the first people I told about The 5 Buckets book.

“When you finish the book, I’ll have you on my podcast to promote it.” Mik said back in January.

I remember a doubtful look in his eye. Like he didn’t think I’d finish it.

Walking into his office last week, I smile wide handing him a published copy of The 5 Buckets.

“Wow man, it looks great. This is incredible. I’ll get the room set up and we can begin recording.”

As promised, Mik scheduled time for us to record an episode for his Oversharing podcast. I settle into my seat, swing the mic to my face, and check sound by counting down from ten.

Halfway through our discussion, he asks me an important question,

“So, who did you write this book for?”

I pause. I hadn’t been asked that question. And I sense “Mik the marketer” listening closely for a smart, targeted response.

“I wrote it for people like me.” I say.

My answer sits with me long after I leave Mik’s office.

I didn’t write the book for people like me. I wrote it for me.

I wrote it because I was tired of not writing. I wrote it because I desperately wanted to change. I wrote it to save my Self.

I needed to crawl out of a hole. And writing The 5 Buckets gave me a way out.

It publishes today. I hope a ton of people buy it, read it, and share it.

I want you to read it.

But as the book suggests, the real magic comes from you living your own life of intention.

Magic comes from you doing things for you.

Take a walk outside, doodle on your notepad, make yourself some soup, or write a few pages of your first book… whatever helps you crawl out of a hole.

Finding your way out shows the rest of us it’s possible.

Even if you do just to save your Self.
